About Global Tax Free-Planet
Global Tax Free-Planet K.K. is a strategic joint venture bringing together Global Tax Free, which has developed tax refund operations across Asia, and Planet, which provides payments and Tax Free services worldwide.
We combine Global Tax Free’s expertise in tax-free counter operations, electronic refunds, authorized data transmission and merchant support with Planet’s global payments and Tax Free network. As Japan’s tax-free market changes, including the transition to a refund-based system from November 2026, our services support both store and commercial-facility operations and travelers’ refund experiences.
Global Tax Free knows Japan’s operations. Planet knows global payments.
Global Tax Free was established in Korea in 2005 and established its Japanese corporation in 2012. It has operated centralized tax-free counters at major commercial facilities, mainly in Kyushu and Okinawa, and expanded its services in response to operational changes, including digital refunds and POS integration.
Planet operates in 31 countries with 60 offices, across five continents and more than 20 markets, and has over 2,900 employees worldwide. Global Tax Free-Planet combines local operational expertise with global knowledge to advance the digital transformation of tax-free services for Japan’s market.

Business foundation
We work with Planet Payment Spain SA and Sumitomo Mitsui Card as business partners and cooperating companies. Our support combines a data integration platform for authorized transmission, specialist IT and customer support teams, tax-free counter operations and marketing initiatives.
